Meet Ludo Vika: as the Diva Queen of Latin Comedy, She lives La Vida Laughter

Ludo Vika is the new IT girl of Latin comedy, one of the comic mensch wonders of the world.
Warning: if you don’t think the irresistible, irrepressible Ludo Vika is one of the funniest acts you’ve ever witnessed, check your vital signs: you might be dead.

Everything about the deliciously bawdy and beautiful Ludo, from her elastic face to her saucy standup hot hair, to her cadences, her pauses, her naughty-but- nice-bada-boom punch lines all scream her uninhibited comic genes. Without a doubt, the “f” word that can certainly be applied to Ludo is “funny”. She’s also of America’s first bi-lingual comics.

FilmstripIn an industry that takes its comedy very serious and where the term “Latina” is basically a freelance position at best, Ludo is prospering. Known as the sexy, outrageous next-door neighbor in the phenomenally popular Telemundo sit-com Solo en America, her character Yolanda mirrors her real-life persona as a vital, vibrant woman determined to shatter all stereotypes of the suffering Latina. Couch potatoes will also recognize her as the zany female host on Galavision’s “Que Loco’s”. On English speaking television: Ludo has quest-starred on the best of them: Beverly Hills 90120, In Living Color, Diagnosis Murder, The Steve Harvey, HBO’s Loco Slam, Funny is Funny, Comedy Compadres, Comedy Central’s Make Me Laugh, amongst many others. Hollywood soon called for the talents of the lithe and inventive physical comedienne and her famous slapstick bits soon worked in films such as: Crazy Sitter, Spilled Milk and Trapped in Don Quixote’s Dream.

On Tour, Ludo performs “I Love Ludo” a laugh-till- it-hurts sitcom style live comedy show that appears to be an I Love Lucy meets the Honeymooners. Her partner in giggles on-stage and off, is husband and comedian Lonesome Dave Conrades, who stems from North Carolina. As someone astute once said : “He is a little bit country and she is from way out of the country.” With her comic genius, Ludo Vika explores universal themes: the tension of married life, the clash between marriage and home, the meaning of loyalty and friendship and the tribulations of living in two cultures.

Audiences love her projectile-style of comedy, her mouth doubling as a bazooka as she targets everything we take for in her comic wake. It’s all about creating a comic kaleidoscope – of the vast melting pot of America… our blues, our metropolitan madness. Yes, there’s no layer of ham or sham Ludo doesn’t crack. As a comic genius, Ludo spares the rod, spoils her audience and is always rapturously listened to.

She grew up in the Dominican Republic home, rich in comfort and love. “I knew we weren’t poor, because we had shoes”. At nine, the family moved to Puerto Rico for better shoes, better food, and better opportunities. By 15, the little girl who could dance before she could walk took Puerto Rican television by storm with her adagio performances. Her incredible talent soon took her to a year’s tour in Europe and then to Vegas where she won unanimous praise from the critics for her closing act at the Dunes Hotel.
Like Lucy and Tracy Ullman, Ludo’s mobile face registers a dictionary of emotions and characters; her comic timing is unmatched, and her devotion to the raw truth of her character never flags. And like them, she is helping to make TV a habit, and an art form.
